Story

Rudra (Arya) is sent to Varanasi when he was kid since the astrologers told his father that the father and son should not meet each other for 14 years. When the father comes to search his son after 14 years, he finds out that Rudra has become an aghora. Rudra’s guru tells him that he should cut all the relationships to become Kal Bhairav and sends him back home. There is a local beggar’s mafia in Rudra’s village. And rest of the story is about how this mafia crosses the line of Rudra and how he punishes them.

Plot:

After a horror fest in the first half of the year, now we have the first horror/supernatural flick of the second half. 2009 is proving to be a fruitful year for the horror genre. Yaavarum Nalam and Arundhathee met with success unexpected and were followed by some dubbed movies like Shivapuram and Thanthra, the latest to follow in this line is Bommayi.

Dubbed to Tamil from the Hindi original Phoonk released last year, Bommayi is a tale of rationale vs. supernatural. Black magic and voodoo like methods form the basis of the movie. The movie starts with a young engineer being dismissed from his job by his boss after he tried to unethically subvert a project to his advantage. He is literally insulted in public and fired. More than him, it is his wife who feels great rage at the boss for the strict action taken. She decides to settle scores in a dark way. Using her knowledge of black magic she casts a spell upon the boss’ family. Focus shifts to the boss’ family where things seem to be getting weird by the day. He is having nightmares and strange visions. But, the more serious

concern is his daughter (a girl of around 8 years) who is showing strange and terrifying changes in behavior, split personality, ferocious voices, and great anger.

Unaware of what has gone wrong, he takes his child to a psychiatrist. However, his wife seems to believe in the possibility of some evil force at work and decides to consult a witch doctor. In an interesting battle of science and supernatural, Bommayi tells the tale of how the issue is finally sorted out, with a very interesting twist. Which side wins, science or wizardry?

Ram Gopal Verma has taken this small story in his trademark style and manages to spook and intrigue us. With no familiar faces at all, Bommayi rides entirely on the ability of the maker to keep us engaged. The young girl’s performance is the highlight of the movie; she literally transforms herself into another person in some scenes. Dubbing from Hindi to Tamil has been done without any major glitches. Bommayi may make an interesting couple of hours for those who fancy the genre.

Plot:

The movie revolves around Ramya (Sindhu Menon). She is found dead in a bathtub at her posh apartment. Vasu (Aadhi), a top cop takes the responsibility of investigating the death. He suspects foul play in the incident.

He enquires Bala (Nandaa), Ramya’s husband and several other neighbours. However, he is yet to make progress in the case. An interesting flashback reveals that Vasu and Ramya were lovers in Trichy.

They estrange after Ramya’s father (Rajasekar) refuses for their marriage. Meanwhile, four murders take place in the apartment complex where Ramya lived. Vasu gets the shock of his life during the investigation. Revealing more on the story would take away the suspense element. Watch the movie to know what happened next.

Story:

Prashanth's Shock, a remake of Ramgopal Verma's Bhoot, is a movie on whether there exist ghosts or not?

Interestingly, it's an entertainer with no songs, no gorgeous sets, neither action nor punch line dialogues, which are a common feature in a Tamil movie, these days. Thiyagarajan, who has produced and directed the movie deserve an appreciation for his honest and sincere attempt on the screen. Prashanth, Meena and Suhasini Manirathinam have done their best, while Saleem Sulaiman's background score add strength to the film.

Prashanth and Meena move into their new rented flat in an apartment complex. However, he hides a truth to her that a young girl had jumped off from the flat and died, a few months ago. When Meena comes to know about it, she feels herself in a world of dark secluded from everyone. She begins walk away from her flat in the nights. Piqued by her attitude, Prashanth consults a psychiatrist Sarath Babu, who tells him that his wife suffers from a multiple personality disorder.

However, when his maidservant Kalairani insists on him that his wife is exorcised by a ghost, he decides to call a medium( one who converses to ghosts). Suhasini steps in there. Suhasini finds out that Meena is exorcised by the ghost of the young woman, who died in the flat. The ghosts real motive is found out by her and a solution is finally arrived at to the relief of Prashanth.

Prashanth looks matured and executes his part well. Meena too has played her part well. Towards the second-half, her histrionics deserve appreciation. Thiyagarajan plays a policeman in the movie, while Devan, K R Vijaya and Abbas are also in the cast.
